Participants are asked to turn up at the entrance of the Manga Museum.Registration for this visit will be open at 13:00. The talk by Professor Berndt will start at 14:00. Participants can see exhibitions in the Museum on their own before and after the talk. Registration for the ACEI conference will begin at 16:30 at Kambaikan, followed by a welcome speech and drinks (see the following for more details).

Please come through the main entrance of the Kambaikan (with an auditorium called Hardy Hall) for registration that starts at 16:30. We expect a long queue at around 18:00 and suggest you come at an earliest possible time to avoid it.

Do not miss the short speech that will be specially made by Professor Tetsuo Yamaori, who is an internationally well-known philosopher, on the cultural landscape of Kyoto. This will start at 18:30.

There will be a drinks reception from 19:00 to 20:00 downstairs in the same building. The registration desk will still be open during this time.

Registration and all the sessions (except for the ACEI General Meeting) will be held on the second floor of the Rinkokan building. It is Number 25 building on the map (shown above). Please come to the registration desk if you need to be registered.

We will offer a small-scale excursion to Gekkeikan, a famous sake brewery, after the conference. This event is planned and organized by the courtesy of Professor Kishiro Kishimoto of Momoyama Gakuin University, who is a member of the Japan Association of Cultural Economics. Professor Kishimoto is an Ambassador of Kyoto Sightseeing and Hospitality and has been appointed Honorary Sommlier of Sake.

Places are limited to fifteen, given on a first-come, first-served basis. Priority is given to non-Japanese ACEI conference participants. Please contact us at g018jace-2012@ml.gakkai.ne.jp if you are interested.

The tour participants will meet at the conference venue and depart right after the whole program on the 24th June. We will take a train from Imadegawa (the nearest to Doshisha University) to Fushimi, which is a well-known area for sake making for centuries. We will finish by the early evening and disperse there. There will be guidance given in English by Professor Kishimoto and staff of Gekkeikan, Q&A and tasting of sake free of charge.

The train ride will be about half an hour and cost 430 yen, payable by each participant.

The local organizers and the Japan Association for Cultural Economics extend warmest welcome to ACEI 2012 Kyoto. We hope all the participants will find the conference exciting and fruitful not only for its academic content but also for the cultural and social events we offer during the four days. While the academic program is being planned, there have been a few social programs secured already.

Practical information on travelling and accommodation is also provided on this website, but here is some information to help you initially organize the plan of the trip.

• Kyoto is easy to access from Kansai International Airport, approximately seventy-five minutes by train. Alternatively, fly to Tokyo International Airport (Narita), where there are domestic connections from Narita to Osaka International Airport (Itami), which is the closest airport to Kyoto.
• Those who are interested in staying both in Kyoto and in Tokyo, the best travel plan would be to come to Kyoto for the conference and move to Tokyo by bullet train. To fly in one airport and out from another within Japan would normally be treated as a round trip.

The Japan rail pass is extremely reasonable for traveling by JR trains around in Japan.
